The Shadow Throne, Quote 3

TST_large

Ahh, Jaron will you never learn?

To which he would undoubtedly reply, “No. Never.”

This moment occurs in the midst of some tough scenes for Jaron.

“I told you to humble him,” Vargan said to his men. “Does he look humble?”

In all fairness to his soldiers, until the moment I spit on their king, I probably had looked pretty humble. But this also meant I had more punishment coming my way. The spitting was still worth it.

Some places have already begun selling or shipping this book. But it’ll be available everywhere US/Canada of February 25, and through the UK on March 1! War is Coming…

Poem About Reading The Shadow Throne

    I know I shouldn’t
    Last year I wouldn’t
    But that was before
Waiting, for from waiting my judgement became poor.

I shouldn’t read The Shadow Throne during class
Not even in the bathroom with a bathroom pass
    But I’m going to
    The book is so new
    And good
And I just needed to, I thought you’d understood
    Um, I mean understand.
Maybe I shouldn’t have read in class after all.

        Thanks 🙂
I’m writing another one, it’s really long though. It’s going to be about 100 lines when I’m done. Poems are how I cope with waiting. 🙂

Do you think this is a good opening to my dystopian fiction book?

“Ugh, why does everything have to be so wrong! Why do we use technology while they use medieval weapons. This war is going terrible.”

Pls answer, I need to know!

I cannot wait to read this book and have preordered it. I have to say that you, Jennifer Nielson are my favorite author! And the False Prince and Runaway King are the best books! Every time I read either of them I never cease laughing at Jaron’s (Sage) comments and arguments. How do you create such clever returns? Do they come to you easily; kind of like you are the character or the character is speaking to you what he would say? Or do you actually have to sit there and think hard about how to make your answer worthy of Sage’s voice? Also, how do you think of such great plot ideas? Again, do they just come to you or what? Do you know the entire plot before you start writing? As you can probably tell, I hope to write a book, but I want it to be great – like yours, full of clever quotes that stay in your mind forever (like Jaron’s). Any tips to how you write such hilarious and memorable books would be greatly appreciated! I am thirteen and love to write. And read. Especially books like yours.
P.S. I was wondering if you read Megan Whalen Turner’s The Thief before writing your book, because the characters remind me so much of each other. Love both of those books!

Thank you, Krista. Jaron’s snarky lines are really just my sense of humor, so I write whatever comes to my head at those times. For the plots, I just try to create the story I would want to read – it’s really happy to me that so many other people enjoy the stories too. I do know most of the plot when I begin a story, though new details always emerge that I hadn’t anticipated. Good luck with your own writing. Remember that great writing comes from many rewrites, so learn to love that phase. I do think Gen from The Thief has some similarities with Jaron, though I think there are big differences between them too.

I was at a friend’s house, and we had a… strange conversation regarding the book.
Me: “The new one, by Jennifer Nielsen.”
    Her: “What’s it called again?”
    Me: The Shadow Throne
    Her mom walks in.
Her: “Mom? There’s this book I kind of want. It’s coming out in 3 days. It’s called, um…”
    Me: “The Shadow Throne.”
Her:” Right. The Shadow Throne by Jennifer Nielsen. It’s part of the series…”
    Me: “The Ascendance Chronicles”
Her: “Right. So, can I get it?”
    Me *Sigh*
    Later…
Her: “I wonder who will be the first person to get their hands on it?”
    Me: “Me, probably”
    Her: “How do you know?”
Me: ” ‘Cause I’m going to read it at four o clock am!”
Her: “But it won’t be there”
Me: ” I have it on pre-order on my kindle!”
    Her: “But…”
Me: “Usually these things start at 12:01 am”
Her”… You’re going to be the first to read it. Probably.”
Me: “…Or I could stay up ’till midnight!” 😀 *Insert maniacal grin here.
Her: “Yeah, you’re gonna be first.”

Oh my gosh! That’s hilarious. Jennifer, you will forever be my favorite author of all time! And Jaron will forever be my favorite character of all time!
    Brin
PS I saw this quote and I figured you’d really love it:
    Team Sage/Jaron
    because…….
    Edward sucks blood
Jacob smells like a wet dog
and you and I both know…..
A sneaky boy who can roll a coin
    on his knuckles
    is just plain HOT
PPS My 10-year-old sister said that the only book series– you know what, I’ll just quote her: “The only series I have hope for is My Secret Unicorn and The False Prince.” So yeah, you’re right up there with My Secret Unicorn!

Again, Sorry for spamming your site. My mom bought The Shadow Throne on her iPad as a surprise. She is letting me borrow it for a while. I just finished chapter one. It’s already bringing back SOO many memories. I’m so excited. It’s probably going to be a while till I get my copy. Then my mom will be able to have her iPad back. I’m already loving it so much. It’s making me nervous!!

Ha! I loved that part. Jaron always manages to be hilariously stubborn, even in the most perilous circumstances. He is so clever, too. The fake message that the dude took to Avenia was pure genius! And the way he planned the war to end at Farthenwood was awesome! He really knows how to use reverse psychology on people. The whole time he was like, “Oh, please, can’t you see how broken and pathetic I am? (yeah right) Please, won’t you allow me to at least be hung at Drylliad?” That little stinker. And the way he signed the surrender papers? ABSOLUTELY 100% TRUE JARON. I LOVED IT.

How old are all the characters? I know Jaron, Roden, Tobias, Amarinda and Imogen were around 14-15 in the first book, but how old are they in the Shadow Throne?
